Our story

Nobira was created from a simple observation: in a world that constantly demands our attention, there are few places left where we can simply be. The studio emerged from a desire to offer St. John's a space where the moment you walk through the door, the outside world fades away.

Located on Duckworth Street in the heart of St. John's, Nobira has become a gathering place for people seeking balance. From working professionals looking to decompress after long days to new parents preparing for life's next chapter, our community is as diverse as the practices we offer.

The name Nobira reflects our philosophy — a made-up word that sounds like a gentle exhale, something soft and unhurried. It captures what we aim to provide: a pause, a breath, a moment of return to yourself.

Newfoundland's rugged beauty and dramatic seasons remind us of nature's rhythms. We've tried to bring that same sense of natural flow into our studio, creating an environment that honors both movement and rest.

Every detail of our space has been considered with care — from the warm floors beneath your feet to the soft lighting that greets you as you enter. This is a place where practice comes first, and everything else falls away.

Our mission

At Nobira, we believe yoga should be accessible to everyone, regardless of experience level or physical ability. Our mission is to provide a welcoming environment where each person can develop their practice at their own pace, without comparison or pressure.

We're committed to creating classes that honor the traditional roots of yoga while adapting to the needs of modern practitioners. Whether you're seeking physical strength, mental clarity, or simply a quiet moment in your week, our instructors meet you where you are.

Our goal extends beyond individual classes. We aim to build a community in St. John's where mindfulness becomes a shared value — where the calm cultivated on the mat gradually extends into daily life, relationships, and the broader community we call home.

Our values

Presence over performance

We don't measure success by how deep you can fold or how long you can hold a pose. What matters is showing up, breathing, and being present with whatever your body offers that day.

Individual pace

Every practitioner moves through their own journey. Our instructors provide attentive guidance while respecting that each person's practice is uniquely their own. No rushing, no comparing.

Intentional atmosphere

From the scent of incense to the warmth of our floors, every element of our studio is chosen with care. We believe environment shapes experience, and we've crafted ours to support deep relaxation.

Inclusive community

Yoga is for everybody and every body. We welcome beginners, seasoned practitioners, children, expectant parents, and anyone seeking a moment of stillness in their week.

Mindful instruction

Our teachers are guides, not performers. They focus on clear, supportive instruction that helps you understand your body and develop a sustainable, personal practice.

Key moments

The journey that brought us here

Founding

Opening our doors

Nobira opened on Duckworth Street with a single room, warm floors, and a commitment to creating something different in St. John's.

Growth

Expanding our offerings

As our community grew, we added specialized classes including prenatal yoga, kids yoga, and yoga for back health to serve more diverse needs.

Community

Building connections

What started as individual classes evolved into a genuine community. Regular practitioners became friends, and the studio became a second home for many.

Today

Continuing the practice

Nobira continues to offer a full schedule of classes from Hatha basics to Power yoga, serving practitioners across St. John's and the surrounding area.

What we offer

Nobira provides a comprehensive range of yoga practices designed to meet practitioners wherever they are in their journey. Our offerings include Hatha yoga for those new to the practice, dynamic Vinyasa flow sessions, and specialized classes focusing on back health and prenatal care.

For those seeking deep relaxation, our Yoga nidra sessions offer guided rest and restoration. Power yoga classes provide a more vigorous practice for those looking to build strength and endurance. We also welcome younger practitioners through our kids yoga program.

Our studio is open Monday through Friday from 9:00 AM to 8:00 PM, offering flexibility for various schedules. Whether you prefer a morning practice to start your day or an evening session to unwind, you'll find a class that fits your routine.
